Joanne Cutler


Joanne Cutler is an archaeologist who specialises in the Bronze Age Aegean, with a principal focus on textile production, weaving technology and social dynamics in Crete and the wider southern Aegean during the Middle and Late Bronze Age.
Her research encompasses how technological skills and techniques are learned and transmitted, and the implications of this with regard to technological innovation, material culture change and the construction of identity, particularly in relation to the ‘Minoanisation’ and subsequent ‘Mycenaeanisation’ of the southern Aegean.
She participates as a specialist in a number of international field projects in Greece, and currently holds a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship/Gerda Henkel Stiftung at the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre for Textile Research, University of Copenhagen.
